Electrical and Computer Engineering
Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering!
At Oakland University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), we are dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience. Our faculty, who are teacher-scholars and experts in their fields, are actively engaged in cutting-edge research and committed to mentoring students in their academic and professional journeys.
We offer two ABET-accredited bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Computer Engineering as well as bachelor's degrees in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering and in Engineering Physics.
Our undergraduate programs emphasize the importance of hands-on experience, ensuring that students engage in practical learning through laboratory sessions led by faculty and graduate students. We also provide year-round undergraduate research opportunities, allowing students to contribute to engineering advancements, present papers at conferences, and publish in academic journals.
For those looking to further their education, the ECE Department offers five advanced graduate degrees:
- M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering
- M.S. in Embedded Systems
- M.S. in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering
- Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Ph.D. in Systems Engineering
Graduate students benefit from hands-on experience in laboratories developed in partnership with industry and government agencies. We also offer graduate teaching and research assistantships, providing valuable support and mentorship.
Our department is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and research labs for coursework, thesis work, and corporate collaboration.
The OU Pledge is the university’s commitment to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity for meaningful, hands-on learning. Electrical and computer engineering students engage in experiential learning through their participation in programs, laboratories, research experiences as well as student and professional organizations, including:
- Senior Design Projects Labs
- Research Experience for Undergraduates (funded by NSF)
- Smart Vehicle Club
- Oakland Robotics Association
- Electric Racing Association
Join us at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and be part of a community that is shaping the future of technology and engineering!
